Open manholes

Author: Daily Times

Sir: I would like to draw attention to the dangers posed by open or uncovered manholes through the columns of your newspaper. Open manholes pose a serious danger to the citizenry. Not only should they be covered because if left exposed, they risk letting putrid water come to the surface — children can fall into them, and they often do!

Once they fall in, they could be hurt and even if they don’t, they can have a very hard time getting back out. This poses a serious danger because then they are exposed to the contaminated water in the sewer. In addition, they are also dangerous for traffic, and can cause accidents. The concerned authorities must make covering all open manholes a priority.
