LAHORE: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) announced closure of training camps for wrestling, karate and jujitsu due to lack of funds.

Athletes who have been preparing for the upcoming Asian Games 2018 to be held in Indonesia will not be able to get training due to shortage of funds. The training camp being held at Lahore may no longer help the athletes to continue their struggle to participate in International tournaments.

Recently Pakistani athletes had won five medals, gold and four bronze at the Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast Australia.

Gold Medalist in wrestling tournament Inam Butt, Bronze medalists Tayyab Raza and Mohammad Bilal were also part of the training camp.

Butt a two-time medalist had previously won a gold medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.

Wrestling Federation Secretary Arshad Sattar expressed grief over the closure of the training camp just three months ahead of the Asian Games, stating it most unfortunate for the fate of Pakistani athletes.

He further added that opposing countries have spent the last three years preparing for the Asian Games, whereas Pakistan has shut down its training camps.

The Asian Games 2018 will be held from August 8 to September 2 in Indonesia. The multi-disciplinary sports event takes place once in every four years, honoured by thousands of participants from all Asian Countries. Asian Games is the second largest multi-sport event after Olympics.
