NAUNDERO: The villagers of Pir Mataro have alleged that SHO of the Naundero police station in Abdul Ghafoor Chutto, along with his private guard Gulzar Bhutto, have looted them on the pretext of being criminals. Villager Imran Kertio, Amjad Mangnejo, Ayaz Mangnejo, and Zamir Hussain Abro held a press conference in Naundero on Thursday at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Press Club. They recalled an incident where they were returning home on a motorbike after having a tea at a hotel when the SHO and his private guard stopped them to check their identity. The villagers allege that despite showing their valid CNICs, they were shouted at, accused of being criminals and taken to the Naundero police station where they were locked-up and tortured without reason. They further allege that four mobile phones and money worth Rs4500 was stolen from them by the SHO and he released them only when they paid him an illegal gratification of Rs.30,000 in cash. They demanded the SSP of Larkana, Umar Tufail, to take stern action against the corrupt police officer who is harassing innocent villagers instead of curbing crime.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle and other valuables stolen from Wahab Katpar near Metla village on Wednesday morning have not yet been recovered by Naundero police, despite a report being lodged. Katpar told the media that he is very poor man, with a low-paid government job and he urged higher police authorities to intervene and help in recovering his valuables. His bike was looted from him at gunpoint by an armed gang which is regularly responsible for committing crimes on the Larkana-Naundero road but has never been caught and brought to justice by the police.
