3,000 cops to guard 3,799 mosques, imambargahs during Ramazan

GUJRANWALA: The City Police Officer (CPO) Ashfaq Khan on Monday said that 3,000 police officers and law enforcers would be appointed at 3,799 mosques, imam bargahs, 16 ramazan bazars and 42 shopping centres during the Islamic month of Ramazan to ensure security for the citizens.

He revealed that police officers would guard ‘Travi’ prayers while anti-street crime squad would be patrolling the city at night time.

He revealed that 605 metal detectors, 200 CCTV cameras and walk through gates would be operative at ‘sensitive’ locations to monitor the movement of suspicious people. He issued directives to all deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and station house officers (SHOs) to ensure law and order in their respective regions.

“The violation of amplifier act regarding use of loudspeakers would not be tolerated,” he remarked while appealing religious clerics to play their part to develop unity, brotherhood and harmony in the society.

Man dies, two injured over land dispute

The Union Council Chairman Shoaib Butt’s relative was gunned down while his son and nephew were left injured on late Sunday over a land dispute at Gondlanwala in Gujranwala.

Reportedly, the police constable Chand Butt and Gujjar group had an old enmity over a land dispute while Shoaib Butt allegedly supported Gujjar group.

Consequently, a brawl erupted between them. The group of Chand Butt opened fire that killed Ali and critically injured Talha and Ehtisham. They were rushed to DHQ Hospital.

Meanwhile, the police started further investigation into the matter.

Women attempts suicide over ‘trivial’ issue

A woman tried to commit suicide by consuming poison over a domestic issue at Khiali in Gujranwala.

Reportedly, 35-year-old Nabeela had a quarrel with her husband Sajid that disheartened her. Consequently, she drank poison. She was shifted to DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.
