LAHORE: The provincial capital marked Mother’s Day on Sunday with a series of events held to honour motherhood.

A number of cake-cutting ceremonies, parties and seminars were held across the city where children conveyed best wishes for a better future to their mothers.

Several bakeries and clothing brands offered special sales on a wide range of edibles and fabric products, respectively. “We have offered the discount for children who want to do something for their mothers but can’t buy expensive gifts, said shopkeepers.

Talking to Daily Times, Sakina Bukhari, said: “I did not post my mother’s picture to social media with long paragraphs to express my love for her. There isn’t any specific day to celebrate mother’s day as I think every day is mother’s day.”

She continued: “My lover for my mother doesn’t need to be expressed on social media as she knows how much I love her.”

Zile Huma Nasir, a MPhil student, said: “My love and affection is only for my mother who prays all the time for my safety and health. MOM is a reflection of WOW. She is the one who is always there for you. My mother is a real blessing of Allah for me.

Another citizen, Agha Khurram, said: “I don’t need a special day to express my love for my mother. Everyone should love their mothers to the moon and back.”

A sophomore, Sana Khushi, said: “Every day is a mother’s day because a mother’s love for her children never ends.” She said that posting a picture to social media websites did not serve the purpose.

Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in the society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly on the second Sunday of May.
