QUETTA: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday said that some elements within Pakistan are misguiding youth and are trying to promote anarchy.

“Pakistan rejects extremism and it is due to efforts and sacrifices of the army that terrorism has been eliminated, but there are elements who are influencing and misguiding the youth of the country and are trying to promote anarchy,” COAS said while speaking to the university students in Quetta.

Earlier today, Gen Bajwa visited Panjpai area near Mastung along the Pak-Afghan border, where he inaugurated work for border fencing.

He also thanked the local leaders and residents for supporting the Pak-Afghan border fencing, saying that such a move would reduce movement of terrorists.

Later, he laid the foundation stone of the Quetta Safe City project, which will cost Rs2.28 billion and will be completed in 5 years. The project is also said to curb terrorism and maintain peace in the region.

The army chief added that the armed forces support government’s steps to improve standards of health and electricity, and measures to provide electricity and water to the residents of the province.
