DHA to set up medical college in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Project Director Arif Rashid Kiani has said that the authority will establish a new medical college in Bahawalpur.

Addressing the ceremony held in connection with balloting for plots at the Bahawalpur Cantonment on Saturday, he said that applications for admissions on hundred seats would be invited by the end of this month through the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore.

He said campuses of the National Defence University and National University of Modern Languages would also be set up in the DHA Bahawalpur.

Seminar marks Int’l Women’s Day: A daylong seminar to mark the International Women’s Day was held at the Government Sadiq College Women University Bahawalpur.

MNA Perveen Masood Bhatti, MNA Sabiha Nazeer and wife of Bahawalpur commissioner Nausheen Zafar were the guest of honour.

Presiding over the ceremony, Government Sadiq College Women University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Tallat Afza said that the government was fully committed to providing all necessary facilities to women to play a constructive and dynamic role in all spheres of life, which is vital to accelerate the pace of socio economic development of the country.

Other speakers in their addresses highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the government for empowerment of women. Almas Fatima was the moderator of the ceremony while tableaus were also performed by students regarding the women empowerment.

Islamia University holds seminar on linguistics, literature: A seminar on Linguistics and Literature was held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur’s Department of English.

French Prof Dr David Waterman participated in the seminar as the guest speaker while Prof Dr Paul Veyret delivered his recorded lecture. English Department Chairman Prof Dr Mamuna Ghani presented her paper on ‘Searching for a job with a degree in linguistics: advertised and hidden job markets.

The seminar was a great source of information as well as inspiration for students of linguistics and literature.
