Sir: The assassination attempt on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal is condemnable and shocking. It shows that once again, politicians are at risk because of of extremist goons. Before this, the Awami National Party faced the same kind of risks during the 2013 elections to discourage them from conducting a full-fledged election campaign. In the current scenario, the majority of political analysts believe that this was an attempt to confine the movement of PML-N leaders while others believe that it has been done to delay the 2018 general elections. Some others believe that this has happened because CJP Saqib Nisar has deprived certain politicians of their security detail, which may have led to the attack on Ahsen Iqbal.

Whatever the motive behind the attempt may be, it must be discouraged and copycats should be stopped pre-emptively. The culprit should be made example of so that next time no one dares to do the same.
