COAS vows to ensure CPEC security

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has reiterated the Pakistan Army’s commitment to ensuring security for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the workforce involved.

He said this during his visit to the Special Security Division (SSD) Headquarters, where he was given a detailed briefing on the integrated security mechanism.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Qamar Javed Bajwa said the Pakistan Army was fully aware of “hostile agenda” against the CPEC, and vowed that the security forces were fully prepared to defeat the enemy’s designs.

The army chief laid emphasis on the value “Pakistan attaches to the Chinese help and assistance extended” in making the projects a success.

He appreciated the SSD officials for their state of preparedness and arrangements for execution of the assigned mission and tasks.

Earlier, upon his arrival, the COAS was received by SSD General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Abid Rafique. Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Bilal Akbar was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi, along with the team’s players, met General Bajwa on Saturday.

The army chief congratulated the team on their victory in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017. ISPR Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor was also present during the meeting.
