ISLAMABAD: Students from Beaconhouse School have won a study trip to an Australian university in this year’s Film Fly Experience Australia video competition.

The competition, organized by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, attracted entries from students in grades 9 to 11 across Pakistan. The students developed short films around the theme of ‘Cyber security and modern day threats’.

The winners from Beaconhouse will travel to Macquarie University in Sydney in June 2018, according to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Australia. Accompanied by a teaching staff, they will experience student life at one of Australia’s leading universities on a five-day study tour. The prize covers economy-class return flights for two students and a teacher, accommodation, and travel and living expenses.

The competition was sponsored by Macquarie University, RMIT University, Southern Cross University, University of Queensland, University of South Australia, Qantas, Allianz Global Assistance and Iglu.

Australian Trade Commissioner Peter Coleman said, “The Australian Trade and Investment Commission is delighted to support this competition. This competition has exposed the students from Pakistan to new study options to consider, particularly in fields that link to careers of the future. We look forward to having the winners in Australia soon.”

“Australia is an increasingly popular international education choice for Pakistani undergraduate and post-graduate students with more than 12,000 Pakistanis studying there today. As more students look to equip themselves with the skills required for a competitive global environment, an Australian education has become one of the most sought after in the world,” Coleman said.

“We would like to invite more students from Pakistan to study in Australia in courses related to archaeology, earth and marine sciences, mineral and mining engineering, environmental sciences, nursing, pharmacy and pharmacology and veterinary science, where Australia is a world leader and a significant international education destination for emerging or future careers in areas ranging from technology, digital, robotics, media and entertainment, scientific research, health, future materials. These programmes will provide students from Pakistan the foundation for a global career in areas of future employment growth,” Coleman said.
