ISLAMABAD: A bomb went off under a bridge on Sur Bandar Road in Gwadar on Sunday, according to police.

Police were informed about the bomb under the bridge. However, it exploded before the Bomb Disposal Squad team arrived on the scene, a private news channel claimed.

The bridge was partially damaged but no casualties were reported.

Police said it was a remote-controlled bomb weighing around 5 to 7kg.

Since the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was announced in 2014, the security status in Balochistan has improved due to the efforts of the army.

Separately, Iranian forces fired nine mortars into Pakistan.

However, no loss of life was reported. According to details, the mortar shells were fired into the Pakistani territory from a very short distance by the Iranian forces.

Assistant Commissioner Mehrullah Badini launched a protest with the Iranian authorities on the directives of deputy commissioner Chagai after the firing.

The Iranian authorities, however, said that they had no knowledge about the mortar rounds being fired into Pakistan. They also hinted that a third party may have fired the rounds to create misunderstanding between the two brotherly countries.
