KHYBER AGENCY: A protest demonstration of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)workers was held in a bazaar on Sunday against the poor performance of the Agency Headquarter Hospital, Landikotal.

Beside a number of PPP volunteers, workers of the Khyber Youth Forum (KYF) and members of the civil society participated in the demonstration. Holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the lack of health facilities in the hospital, the participants marched from Bacha Khan Chowk to the press club where the rally culminated into a public gathering.

Addressing the demonstrators, speakers including PPP President Hazrat Wali Afridi, Gul Bahadar President KYF, Amir Afridi and Shah Rehman Shinwari said that being the headquarters the hospital had to facilitate the tribals but ironically it had a shortage of gynaecologist, surgeon doctor and a number of specialists. This compelled the tribesmen to shift their patients to Peshawar.

Instead of attending the official duties in their respective positions in the hospital, they performed private practices to earn more, they accused.

They warned that the proposed government policy of privatising the hospital would be opposed on every platform.

The tribesmen asked for a peaceful resolution of the border issue and stressed for resumption of the Torkham border to save the tribesmen from starving.

The charged the political administration and the setting parliamentarians for turning a blinds eye to the problems of the masses.

They demanded of the health department to adopt positive steps to make the hospital a health relief centre for the locals otherwise they would come out on the roads for their rights.
