SHC takes notice of minor’s rape, murder in Larkana

KARACHI: Taking notice of the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in Larkana, the Sindh High Court on Wednesday sought a report from a district and session court.

The court has summoned Larkana DIG Ferozuddin Siddiqui and SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio on May 7.

The minor was killed and dumped in a sewage drain after allegedly being raped in Larkana district. The body of the child, who went missing on April 24, was found in the pond near Tayyab Hotel along Dodai Road a day later.

The police have arrested at least six suspects. The victim’s parents, meanwhile, claim that police are aiding the accused. “Police are trying to protect rapists and murderers because the police want to save them,” the minor’s father said while speaking to the media last week. The body was moved to Chandka Medical Hospital but the post-mortem took around six hours as the doctors concerned were not available, alleged the victim’s father.

Speaking to the media, he said the child had left her home in Ayub Colony area on the night of April 24 to buy sweets but did not return. “We searched for her in the neighbourhood and houses of relatives for hours but could not find her.”

After the minor girl went missing, the parents had lodged a complaint with the Haideri police station. Blaming the police for delay in investigation, the father said she may have been alive if the police had immediately begun a search.
