KARACHI: Terrorists and police have been receiving money from the same drug dens, mainly located in the District East, revealed a reliable sources close to the team investigating suspects of banned outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, who were arrested last week from Mehran Town, Korangi Town.
The drug dens operational in Korangi, Landhi and Defence including Mehran Town, Qayyumabad, Bhitai Colony, Ibrahim Haidri, Allahwala Town, Bilal Colony, Qaidabad, Mansehra Colony, Landhi 89, Sherpao Colony, Lala abad, Bakhtawar Goth, Rahri Goth, Qadhafi Town, Cattle Colony, Shah Latif Town operated by local criminals with the help of inter provincial network of drug dealers were not only providing money to police to keep it away but the dens were also major source of funding for the terror organizations, the investigation revealed.
During the investigation it was also surfaced that the drug dens were operational with the permission and prior information of area police which receives money through “beaters” of relevant police stations, SP offices and DIG offices as weekly and monthly bribe.
“These drug dens have been running in other districts of the metropolis including West and South besides the towns of district East, but generated money used to distributed among local criminals, intra-provincial drug smugglers and police sans any terror linkages”, an investigation official told Daily Times on the condition of anonymity.
“When banned outfits like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi saw easy money coming through these drug dens under the protection of police without any potential risk as compared to bank robberies and extortions to finance terror activities they also jumped into the business to benefit from the huge racket”, the official claimed.
The concerned officials are also suggesting extensive measures to be taken to weed out all drug dens not only to cut funding to the terror organizations but also to clean the areas from criminal elements.
