QUETTA; The Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen’s (MWM) protest in Quetta against the repeated target killing of the Hazara community continued for a second day.
The protests have been taking place since Monday.
The protest camp is set up outside the Balochistan Assembly, and the provincial minister Syed Agha Raza is leading the protest.
Alongside the protest, the beleaguered Hazara community is also organizing a hunger strike outside the Quetta Press Club.
Social activist Advocate Jalila Haider is leading the strike.
The protestors’ demands include the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the target killing of Hazaras.
On Monday night, when the protests first started, Interior minister Ahsan Iqbal visited the camp and talked to Agha Raza.
The protestors refused to talk and to end the protest until Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited them.
In a recent tweet, Iqbal expressed his solidarity with the Hazara community over the killing of two hazara men by terrorists.
He further added, “In the last five years, the situation has improved significantly with killings dropping from 215 in 2014 to 8. Our efforts will continue to bring it to zero InshaAllah.”
A string of targeted killings has spread a wave of terror among the citizens of Quetta.
At least six people have been killed and three wounded in different incidents of targeted killings in the provincial capital over the last three days.
On April 27, a prayer leader’s brother was shot dead at a local mosque on Toghi Road.
A day later, two other people were killed on Jamaluddin Afghani Road. The victims belonged to the Hazara community as well.
Moreover, three people were killed when unknown attackers randomly opened fire in the market on Jan Mohammad Road on April 29.
After these targeted attacks, a shutter-down strike was observed in some parts of Quetta, while the Hazara Democratic Party, head by Ahmed Ali Kohzad, held a rally.
