KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has asked the provincial chiefs of Rangers and police to file comprehensive and specific replies to petitions seeking the whereabouts of three missing citizens allegedly picked up by the paramilitary troopers.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Syed Muhammad Farooq Shah was hearing the petitions seeking the recovery of taxi driver Imran Khan, Ataullah and Abdul Qayyum.

The petitions were filed by the relatives of the missing persons.

The court issued notices to Sindh police chief, home secretary, federal and provincial law officers, and SHO’s of Model Colony, Zaman Town and Garden police stations, directing them to submit their respective replies in two weeks.

Muhammad Rehan Khan, the brother of missing Imran, submitted that the Rangers personnel had picked up his brother from his home in Model Colony on Feb 27.

His wife had approached the police station concerned to seek information about him but no avail, he said while requesting the court to direct the authorities to produce the missing man in court.

Separately, Moulvi Noor Muhammad informed the judges that the paramilitary force raided his residence located in Noorani Basti Korangi on 18th February and took away his two sons namely Yahya and Noor-ul-ameen.

On the very next day, they released both his sons and took away his other son, Ataullah, he added while pleading the judges to direct them to release his son.

Petitioner Shabana Begum submitted that her spouse, Abdul Qayyum was sitting outside his home in Badshahi Road, Garden on Mar 9 when some Rangers personnel came and whisked him away without any plausible reason. Since then here was no clue to his whereabouts.
