LARKANA: Larkana district has been crippled by massive power outages, media reported on Tuesday.

Dr Saeed Memon informed media that the Murad Wahan locality of Larkana was experience 14-hour load shedding daily. He said, “Generators are bearing the load; otherwise, SEPCO had become a curse for the denizens.

In Naundero, 16-hour power outages were being carried out daily instead of 8-hour load shedding as announced by local SEPCO authorities to save stolen units. In village Chooharpur, which receives supply from Empire Sub-Division of Larkana, two-hour power supply is given in a week. Villagers complained that are only able to charge their cellular phones in once a week due to these circumstances.

In village Mahotta, which is located near Larkana, the residents alleged that it had become the first village in Pakistan where electricity is restored for 8-hours weekly despite the fact that they pay their monthly bills regularly, but even then consumption remains the same for whole year around, a notable Mujahid Ali said. In Ratodero, a journalist, Gul Bahar Shaikh, said that out of 24 hours, only four hours electricity was supplied to the residents daily and 20-hours forced outages has been made mandatory.

In Dokri, 15-hour load shedding is being carried out daily, said Muhammad Salim. Gul Bahar Shaikh said the federal government had announced four-hour closure schedule as a general policy.

He said due to non-availability of power, the people who had been affected the worst were the labour class as they could not earn their livelihood. He said non-supply rendered factories nonfunctional due to which labourers were not paid by the owners. Load shedding is in turn increasing poverty in the area thus.
