Resolution against blasphemy passed in PA

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Assembly (PA) on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution against blasphemous contents on social media.

The resolution was presented by Khadija Omar. Through the resolution, the house demanded strict action against all people involved in this activity.

The House also demanded a strict monitoring system on social media through usage of information technology expertise. Speaking on the resolution, several members, including Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, the leader of opposition Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, Dr Waseem Akhtar and Maulana Ilyas Chinioti expressed grave concerns over the issue and demanded strict action from government.

On the suggestion of the law minister, the deputy speaker said that a committee will be setup to tackle the issue in a proper manner.

Earlier, the House also approved two public interest resolutions, under the first resolution, presented by Dr Waseem Akhtar, the House demanded setting up of an industrial zone in Bahawalpur.

Through the other resolution, the House asked the Punjab Government to construct a bridge on River Jhelum at place of Chak Nizam.
