Sir: Recently, the Democratic Republic of Congo sacked more than 250 magistrates who didn’t have law degrees to work as lawyers.
The country has some 4,000 magistrates. In 2009, President Jospeh Kabila sacked around 96 judges accused of corruption, a scourge in the mineral-rich country, including within the government.
We can learn a great lesson from the Democratic Republic of Congo since Pakistan has also a large number of lawyers or magistrates who don’t have law degrees but are working as lawyers. There sole purpose of working as lawyers is to earn money and most of them also take bribes.
A committee should be formed to sack all corrupt lawyers and magistrates across the country because it’s justice that has to be prioritized and not money. And justice should be dispensed irrespective of rich of poor, caste or creed.
