ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced that TEDxAIOU will be held at its main campus on May 5 to discuss the topic of a peaceful tomorrow.

TED has created TEDx, a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At the event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connections. The main theme of TEDxAIOU is A Peaceful Tomorrow which is a dream of every child and adult. A university’s announcement said, “We believe that exploring the venues and ways of peaceful tomorrow is a need of the day for a sustainable future. When we envision the future it is not possible to look at it without deconstructing the phenomenon. Therefore the included sub-themes are from various areas of life which significantly contribute to the main theme in their own special ways. The eminent practitioners and theorists from different walks of life shall talk about environment and engineering, arts, culture, literature, social justice, economics, business, commerce, building common narratives through conventional /social media and gender parity. The speakers are already working and implementing their ideas which enables them to share real life experiences and stories worth knowing. School students shall share their perspective of how they see and wish to have a peacefultomorrow. We are organising this event for realising the vision of ideas worth spreading from the platform of AIOU. This event shall be a milestone in the pathway of developing peace narrative and initiating discourse in the society.” TED is a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 110 languages.
