PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday barred the government from granting clemency to former Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan until inquiry is completed.

A two-judge bench comprising of Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Ikram Ullah Khan was hearing a petition filed by father of an Army Public School (APS) victim, who argued that the government is planning to grant clemency to Ehsan.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that Ehsanullah Ehsan has been involved in terrorist attacks, including that of the APS, but now the government is “planning to release him.”

Deputy attorney general, however, replied that there are no plans to release Ehsanullah or to grant him clemency. He added that investigations are still under process and that once investigations are completed, Ehsan will be brought before a military court.

The judge bench remarked that the government can not grant clemency to Ehsan without court orders and that only the families of the APS victims can pardon him, if they wish to do so.
