ISLAMABAD: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah and Balochistan CM Abdul Quddus Bizenjo on Tuesday walked out of the NEC meeting over reservations.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi headed the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Islamabad. The CMs of the aforementioned provinces walked out of the meeting citing budget and development program reservations.
Speaking at the press conference after the walk-out, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah said that they left the meeting over reservations pertaining the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).
“We did not approve the PSDP since the ruling government’s tenure is about to end in May and they can not implement such moves for the coming year,” Shah said.
The CM added that the attendees were presented a summary of PSDP projects and were asked for approval. “We advised the PM to conduct voting for approval of PSDP but he wanted an immediate approval. We walked out because he said that our approval was not required,” he added.
On the other hand, KP CM Pervaiz Khattak said: “In our 2 and a half hour stay in the meeting, we debated that the PM was doing injustice by placing development projects of the ruling government’s own will in the PSDP.”
Balochistan CM Bizenjo complained that there was no point of inviting them to the meeting if their reservations were not to be considered. “We asked the PM to design the budget for the next few months and leave the rest to the next government,” Bizenjo continued.
