Pakistani Canadian complains land grabbers harassing his manager

Author: Staff Report

LAHORE: A Pakistani settled in Canada has complained that the police officials are not taking up his multiple applications lodged with different stations in the city seeking action against a group trying to grab his ancestral land in Raiwind.

He has also complained that a man employed to manage his assets in Pakistan is receiving death threats from the land grabbers for trying to pursue the case with authorities concerned.

After getting no response from the police authorities, Sheikh Dawood Ashraf, through his manager Jameel Ahmed, has now approached the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) in a bid to secure possession of his property in Raiwind.

Ashraf’s manager Ahmed has moved at least four applications with different police stations over the issue. Speaking to Daily Times, Ahmed said that some influential government officials and politicians of the area were backing the land grabbers. He said that to dissuade him from pursuing the case, the grabbers got registered a false case against him as well.

The complaint he has submitted to the police, a copy of which is available to Daily Times, states, “I [Sheikh Ashraf] inherited some land from my forefathers situated at Raiwind City mauza. The undersigned also purchased some property as stated measuring 55K-80M, since I have been living in Canada. While administration and control of property owned and possessed [by me has been] in control of my manager, namely Jamel Ahmad.”

In the complaint, the manager has been quoted as saying that several men were attempting to grab 12-kanal immovable property using fake documents. He said they were using the fake documents against his property deed to take away possession of the undersigned.

“Whereon undersigned invoke the jurisdiction of the civil court where proceedings were pending against the above said land grabbers but despite the fact, accused persons could not refrain from doing illegal act. Therefore, undersigned in order to protect his property also approached the local police station so the accused could have been bound to the limits of law but undersigned was surprised of the relation and influence of accused persons. The undersigned has lost his confidence in the officials, rather its seems the said officials would not be in a position to do justice or fair proceedings of his requests. There are three complaints submitted in Raiwind police station by his manager but no action has been taken yet. Another complaint against forgery has been submitted in liberty market police station. Further, undersigned received serious life threats from these land grabbers. Accused had indiscriminate firing on April 8 on his manager and security guards present at his property and hurling life threats besides abusing them, try to get illegal possession of the land which is duly reported at concerned police station.”
