ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif along with daughter Maryam Nawaz on Monday reached accountability court after returning from London, for hearings of Al-Azizia Steel Mill and Avenfield properties reference cases filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Sharif and family are charged for corruption in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference case. Captain (r) Safdar along with Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz appeared before the court.
Addressing the media outside accountability court, Sharif stated that Jamaat Islami chief Siraj ul-Haq’s statement on election of Senate Chairman should be contemplated.
Nawaz further raised questions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, stating that Khan should consider on whose orders PTI members voted in Senate elections.
Former PM challenged Khan to own his vote for Pakistan People’s Party during the Senate Elections. Sharif said that Khan should also inform the people how PTI candidate Chaudhry Sarwar won a Senate seat from Punjab.
Judge Mohammad Bashir adjourned the case proceedings till Tuesday, owing to absence of key witness and head of Panama Papers Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia.
Zia will be recording his statement in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference case on Tuesday.
The court will resume proceedings of Avenfield properties reference case at 2 pm today. The court had exempted Sharif and Maryam from case proceedings on April 20.
Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif along with daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were charged in Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Avenfield Properties and Flagship Investment Limited reference cases in September last year by NAB following the Panama Papers verdict.
