RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has issued final notices to owners of cattle pens to shift them outside Cantt area.

Media reports state that an operation would be launched by RCB within two weeks if cattle pens were not shifted outside Cantt area, the sources said that the violators of the orders will be fined and their cattle will be taken into possession.

Currently, over 150 cattle pens are operating in different cantonment areas including Jhanda Chichi, Mareer Hassan, Gulistan Colony, Dheri Hassan Abad, Tahli Mohri, Kalma Chowk and other areas.

The Cantt administration in the first phase has issued notices to the Cattle pens which are operating close to the sewerage nullahs.

Cantt administration has sought help from the district administration to facilitate them during the operation through Police.

Due to the rising complaints and throwing of waste and dung into the sewerage nullahs Cantt administration has issued notices to the cattle pen owners to leave the area immediately.

In residential areas ‘gawalas’ have purchased or hired houses for cattle breeding.

Tying the cattle in streets of residential areas has became a daily routine due to which filth is spreading, turning the areas into breeding places for mosquitoes.

Whereas, their waste and dung is thrown into sewerage lines which in rainy season remain choked and a flood like situation is created in the entire area.
