Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz are set to appear before the accountability court in Islamabad after returning to Pakistan from London in the wee hours of Monday.

The former premier and his daughter are scheduled to land in Islamabad at 1:30 am Monday. In a tweet on Sunday, Maryam confirmed reaching Heathrow airport in London to depart for Pakistan.

They had reached London Wednesday night to visit Kulsoom Nawaz, who is undergoing treatment for cancer there.

Responding to questions in London on Saturday, Nawaz told media that doctors had informed them that surgery would be done if cancer reappeared. “Findings after radiotherapy will be compared to ascertain if surgical intervention is required or not,” he added.

Nawaz and his family are facing three corruption cases in the accountability court filed by the National Accountability Bureau in light of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case.

At the hearing of the Avenfield properties reference on Friday, the judge had exempted Nawaz and Maryam from the hearing but did not approve their request to be exempted from the next hearing scheduled for April 23.
