LOS ANGELES: Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor kicked off world tour for their August 26 bout at Staples Centre before a capacity 11,000 crowd on Tuesday.

The UFC champion dressed in a navy blue pinstripe suit, made it to the stage first and remained vocal about his abilities and hard work throughout his speech, constantly taunting his opponent.

“I have worked extremely hard for this. I have worked very very hard for this. So I am up here embracing everything, and nobody is going to do anything about it” said McGregor.

Takings shots at his opponent, McGregor claimed that it would not take him more than four rounds to knock Mayweather out.

“As far as the fight is concerned, he (Mayweather) will be unconscious within four rounds. The movement, the power, the ferociousness; he has not experienced this” said the UFC champion.

He further added that his sole source of motivation is his 2-months-old son, who he aims to provide everything in life.

Floyd Mayweather responded to McGregor’s speech in a similar tone to his counterpart. The 40-year-old fired shots at his opponent claiming himself to be the more popular of the two sportsmen.

“I am still the A-side (someone who gets what he demands). I am still the A-side, this is why he (McGregor) had to come to the boxing world.” said Mayweather.

The 9-time boxing world champion also poked fun at his opponent financial gains over the years.

“This guy (McGregor) made 3 million his last fight. We all know that’s how much my training sessions are worth,” said Mayweather as he walked off the podium laughing.

The boxing legend, totally against the run of events, however, thanked the McGregor and the UFC president Dana White for organising the bout saying that “it takes two warriors to bring an event like this together.”

The two faced off at the end of the event, marking the start of promotional world tour which will continue till next month.

The fight is expected to take place at MGM Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.
