Save food, save lives

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Nowadays, everyone is aware of the importance of a balanced diet as part of a healthy life. However, many around us are undernourished due to their inability to acquire food with proper nutrition. On the other hand, many around us who can afford it, waste huge quantities of food. This wasted food can feed thousands of people.

Research revealed that most of the wasted food comes from marriage halls. Most people waste a lot of food in events like wedding ceremonies and birthday parties. Attendees are found to pile on as much food as they can, irrespective of their capacity to eat. Resultantly, a huge amount of food is left in plates, which goes into trash bins. A similar practice is adopted in most homes, especially by children. We do not even think of people among us who do not have money to buy proper food.

Now a question arises how to motivate people not to waste food and how to manage extra food? At marriage ceremonies food should be arranged as per exact number of invitations. Guests can be motivated with respect and dignity by displaying posters with quotes and texts about the wastage of food in marriage halls.

Similarly food can be managed at home as per the requirement of the family. Children should be taught to take only as much food as they can eat. A habit to reduce and reuse leftover food should be adopted in homes. Moreover, extra food should be given to poor people who cannot afford it. Remember food is life and do not waste your life.
