Avicii, one of the world’s most successful DJs who helped usher in the global boom in electronic music that swept over the past decade – all the way from nightclubs to Top 40 radio, left the world too soon at the age of 28, on Friday in Oman, according to his representative.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” said his management without specifying the cause of his death, or why he was in the Gulf sultanate’s capital, Muscat, in his last days.

While the 28-year-old Avicii’s cause of death is not confirmed as yet, tributes from several international and Indian film celebrities have started pouring in for the late music genius whose demise has left the global showbiz world in shock.

A young, talented, and passionate music artist, he shaped levels of sounds for the pop music industry.

Sonam Kapoor took to Twitter to say: “Listening to Avicii all morning. Music is something that gets us through everything good bad or ugly. And People who make it are truly blessed. He was a genius. RIP Avicii your music was uplifting and we will all feel your loss.”

Alia Bhatt said, “Such a terrible loss!!!! Still can’t believe it.. he was soo young and soo talented! May his soul rest in peace. You will be missed Avicii! #RIPAvicii”

Athiya Shetty quoted one of the artist’s very own sayings: “One day you leave this world behind, so live a life you will remember.” – Avicii

Raghav shared these words of wisdom: “So easy to dismiss musical trends as disposable but the musicians at the top of them are almost always geniuses. Same was true for Avicii. So much more than a EDM guy he shaped sounds pop music will use for a generation or more and understood the value of the song itself. RIP.”

Fellow EDM star Calvin Harris was amongst the first to tweet about him: “Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do. My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim.”

Pop artist Charlie Puth wrote: “Would like to take a moment to pay tribute to the man who really opened my eyes as to what my productions could one day sound like. Avicii was a genius and a music innovator, and I can not believe he is no longer with us. RIP to the very best.”

Dua Lipa tweeted, ““Too young and way too soon. My condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.”

Liam Payne said that he was “truly devastated for Avicii, very very sad news way too young… what a talent he was.”

Fellow electronic musicians Zedd, 3LAU, Marshmello, Deadmau5 and Dillon Francis also sent their love on Twitter, with Deadmau5 confessing how “nobody can deny what he has accomplished and done for modern dance music”.

Imagine Dragons also tweeted their thoughts for Avicii, with the band’s frontman Dan Reynolds tweeting that “the world was a happier and fuller place with his presence and art”.

Rita Ora said, “I have no words. I remember how amazing it was to make ‘Lonely Together’ and it felt like just yesterday we were talking. Condolences to Avicii’s family, friends, and the fans who supported him. May he rest in peace. Gone too soon. I’m devastated. Heartbroken.”

Electronic producer Diplo on Instagram called Avicii “the gold standard” in setting musical trends.

“I know you had your demons and maybe this wasn’t the right place for you sometimes, but we need to protect true artists like you at all costs because there are not enough left and we are losing too many,” he added.

Madonna took to her Instagram, posting a photograph with Avicii while standing behind his DJ booth at one of his shows. Her caption read: “So Sad……. So Tragic. Good Bye Dear Sweet Tim. Gone too Soon.”

Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and his wife Sofia also expressed, “We had the honour to have known him and admired him both as an artist and the beautiful person that he was.”
