CHITRAL: District Nazim of Chitral Maghfirat Shah has asked the government to establish more police stations in the district keeping in view the prevailing circumstances.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said that Chitral had 475 kilometre long border with Afghanistan with 37 passes.

District Naib Nazim Maulana Abdul Shakoor was also present on the occasion.

He feared the militants could enter Chitral from Afghanistan and Swat and Dir.

Maghfirat Shah said that Chitral was the largest district in the province so there was a dire need to set up more police stations to better maintain law and order. Drawing a comparison, he said a police station covered 190 square km area in Nowshera, 250 sq km in Swat, 115 sq km in Lower Dir and 350 sq km in Upper Dir.

The district nazim said that the proposed alternate route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) passing through the district also necessitated increase in the number of police stations in Chitral.

He said the arrival of foreign investors was expected to work on hydropower generation projects and mines and minerals exploration in the district.
