ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain in the presidency on Tuesday signed into law a bill that extends the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court (SC) and the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had forwarded the bill to the President on Friday after the Senate had unanimously voted to extend the SC and PHC’s jurisdiction to FATA.
The bill titled, ‘The Supreme Court and High Court (Extension Jurisdiction to Federally Administered Tribal Areas) Bill 2018 was moved by Law Mahmood Bashir Virk.
Extending the jurisdiction of the SC and the PHC to FATA is an essential component of reforming FATA, an area that continues to remain a victim of state neglect. The much touted National Action Plan (NAP) also envisages reforming FATA as one of its cornerstones.
