RAWALPINDI: The shopkeepers of city and Cantt areas have increased the price of flour by Rs 10 per kilogramme due to negligence and lack of proper checking by Price Control Committees (PCC).
According to media reports, the shop keepers have scaled up prices of 20 kg flour bags by Rs 75 to 100 and Chakki flour by Rs 200. Some shop keepers are selling open flour at the rate of Rs 46 per kg in the market.
District administration Rawalpindi had issued a new rate list according to which the ex mill rate of 20 kg bag was fixed at Rs 750 and retail price at Rs 765 per 20 kg flour bag. Due to lack of check and balance from price control committees (PCCs), the shopkeepers in the areas of city and Cantt including Dhook Chaudrian, Aziz Abad, Mughal Abad Road, TenchBhatta, SajidBukhari Road, 22 no Chungi, Chak Jalal u Deen, Garja Road, Chakri Road, Qasim Market, Dhook Hassu, Saddar, ChakMadad Khan, People’s Colony, BakraMandi, Bani and others have increased the prices of flour on their own.
District Food Controller Muhammad Ijaz said that Food Department sets the price of flour and PCCs ensure its implementation.
On the other hand, price control magistrate Ahmad Hasan Ranjha said that strict action will be taken against those found involved in charging the flour rate beyond government control rate.
