LAHORE: Police said on Monday that a five-year-old girl had been raped in Batapur area.
Officials said 20-year-old Umair Ali, a neighbour of the victim, allegedly assaulted the girl after taking her to an abandoned house. Police said the suspect, a factory employee, fled after the mother of the child reached the spot. Officials said Umair Ali and his family had gone into hiding by the time a police team raided their house.
Separately, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday took notice of the alleged rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Chichawatni, according to reports.
The deceased was burnt after being raped. The girl was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Taking notice of the incident, CJP Nisar ordered Punjab IG Arif Nawaz to present a report in 24 hours. Protests rocked Chichawatni on Tuesday following the incident.
Relatives said the mentally-challenged child was taken to the Chichawatni District Headquarters before being shifted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital. Muhammad Younus, who works at the burns unit of the facility, said the child received burn injuries on her face, chest and private parts. An FIR of the incident has been registered.
