ECP increases display centres to 1500

GUJRANWALA: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has increased the display centres from 434 to 1500 in the Gujranwala division to facilitate the general public.

Regional Election Commissioner Chaudhry Aleem Shahab and Election Officer Adnan Sakhwat Ali said that now more people can approach display centres for registration and modification of their data.

They said 370 centres are operating in Gujranwala, 331 in Gujarat, 250 in Sialkot, 246 in Narowal, 161 in Hafizabad and 142 in Mandi Bahauddin district. Seven registration officers and 141 assistant registration officers have been appointed to resolve complaints of the citizens. 27 revising authorities would also work till 24th April.

Voter registration details can be obtained by sending CNIC number to 8300 via SMS while list of display centres has been uploaded to the website of ECP.

Man hammered his wife

A man hammered his wife to death over a domestic issue at Hashmi colony in Gujranwala.

According to report, Tariq had a quarrel with his wife Razia. Consequently, he hit her head with a hammer while she was cooking in kitchen. Razia, mother of seven, died instantly.

Meanwhile, the police have started investigation.

Protest over kidnap of youth

Family of the deceased youth held a demonstration against police in front of CPO for not arresting the accused who kidnapped and tortured him.

The protesters alleged that an influential named Sardar Shoukat kidnapped Ansar Javed over a dispute of money. The accused threw him near his house after brutally torturing him.

After negotiations, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

15 member gang loots four houses

A 15-member robbery gang looted four houses near town Kamoki.

According to report, gang members entered the houses one by one and locked family members in their rooms. Collectively, they took Rs32 lacs, 19 tolla gold ornaments and other valuables.

PTI councillor Azam Virk alleged that the police was informed about the incident but did not arrive in time.
