ISLAMABAD: Accountability court on Friday granted one-day exemption to Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz as it resumed hearing of Avenfield properties reference case filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The case hearing resumed cross-examination of key witness and former head of Panama Papers Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

The court granted leave to Nawaz and Maryram as they failed to appear in court due to bad weather. However, Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar appeared before the court for the case proceedings.

Nawaz’s defence counsel Harris had concluded his cross-examination of Zia on Wednesday after which Maryam’s counsel started his cross-examination of the witness.

After the last hearing on April 12, Sharif had demanded from Zia to reveal the identities of the unknown investigators part of the JIT probing Panama Papers.

Earlier Maryam Nawaz had urged the court to allow live broadcasting of the supplementary reference cases so truth could be made public.

Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif along with daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were charged in Avenfield properties reference case (London) in September last year.

Sharif was disqualified following the Panama Papers case verdict by the Supreme Court last year. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed supplementary reference cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family.
