ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Thursday took sou moto notice of the brutal rape and murder of a minor girl in Punjab’s Chichawatni tehsil of Sahiwal district.

CJP took notice of the case highlighted by the media following a shutter-down strike in Chichawatni on April 10. Nisar summoned a report on the incident within 24 hours.

Victim’s family had urged the top judge to personally take notice of the case.

On April 8 a minor girl was allegedly raped and set ablaze by unidentified persons. As per reports her burnt body was found and shifted to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital. The doctors advised to shift the girl to Lahore for treatment, where she later succumbed to death.

Earlier, THQ’s postmortem report of the victim revealed that the minor had been raped before she was set ablaze. Blood samples collected from the dead body had been sent to the forensic department by the hospital authorities for further confirmation.

The police on April 10 had registered a case against unidentified suspects under section 302. Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Sahiwal Dr Atif Ikram informed the media that a suspect had been arrested upon suspicious behavior.

He added that the police were investigating the case with the formation of a team to detain the criminals. DPO Ikram had assured that stern action will be taken against the culprits.
