LAHORE: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Sunday said that the Supreme Court believes in accountability for all policy and that the apex court will ‘recover every single penny looted’.
“We will hold every corrupt person accountability and will recover every single penny looted from the national exchequer,” CJP said while hearing the clean water case in SC’s Lahore registry.
During the hearing, Punjab Chief Secretary told the two-judge bench headed by Justice Nisar that a total of Rs 4 billion has been spent in the clean water company and that despite the expenditure, not even a single drop of water has been provided to the public.
In his remarks, Justice Nisar said that all those who were involved in corruption and embezzlement will be held accountable since there is no possibility of bribing him.
He also inquired that “on whats grounds were Zaeem Qadri’s brother Asim Qadri and wife Uzma Qadri included in the board of directors” and that millions have been spent on advertising campaigns while the project has not reached its successful conclusion.
The former safe water CEO Waseem Ajmal informed that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave orders in the safe water company despite not having the authority and that it was on his advice that foreign experts were called in after sidelining local experts.
The CJP also rejected the report presented by safe water CEO and directed prosecutor general National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to summon before the SC on April 14.
