ISLAMABAD: Despite promises from the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan Ajay Bisaria, the Indian Embassy in the country has not issued visas to citizens who are hopeful of a visit to the neighbouring country.

According to sources, the Indian embassy rejects 85 percent of the visa applications of Pakistani residents every month, while on the other hand, the Pakistani embassy has issued visas to 2000 visas to Sikh pilgrims for a Baisakhi celebration at Nankana Sahib.

It was added that citizens who had applied for visas for the purpose of business transactions, religious festivals, social activities and meeting their relatives have not been issued the documents. Moreover, medical visas are also being issued on a limited scale.

It was further said that hefty fee is being charged for visa applications, which are rejected after weeks. The Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria had earlier said that the Pakistan citizens wanting to travel to India would be granted visas.
