ISLAMABAD: Cheif Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday said that there was no room for martial law in the country.

Addressing an event at the Supreme Court Bar Association, the CJP told the audience that he would resign if he could not stop the imposition of martial law. “There is no possibility of any judicial martial law either,” he added.

“I will not allow this shame to be imposed on us. I will not endorse it. If I am unable to stop it, I will go home,” the CJP said.

He further assured that the general elections would be held on time. “The Constitution does not allow any delay in the conduct of general elections,” added the CJP.

In his address, Justice Nisar also praised late Advocate Asma Jahangir’s contribution towards justice.

“Asma considered me as her brother, I respected her as my sister,” the CJP said, adding that Asma had great leadership qualities and above all was a great humanitarian.

Moreover, Justice Nisar urged people to trust him and promised his loyalties in return.
