Remembering Ghulam Farid Sabri, his top 5 qawwali

Qawwal Ghulam Farid Sabri was born in Kalyana, a village in the district of Rohtak in East Punjab, India in 1930 and later shifted to Karachi.

The famous duo Ghulam Farid Sabri and his brother Maqbool Sabri were known as Sabri Brothers, they acclaimed much fame in Qawwali.

They belong to a musical family, at the age of 6 his first singing teacher was his father Inayat Sabri. After Ghulam Farid Sabri’s death, the family tradition of qawwali was carried forth by his son Amjad Farid Sabri, who was killed in July last year.

Ghulam Farid Sabri died on April 5, 1994 in Karachi, after suffering a heart attack. Today marks his 24th death anniversary.

Their first qawwali, Mera Koi Nahin Hai Tere Siwa, released in 1958 got them registered on the popularity chart. That followed with one hit after the other. Bhardo Jholi Meri Ya Muhammad, Sarela Makan Se Talab Hui, Taajdar-e-Haram and Saqiya Aur Pila are some of their most acclaimed qawwalis.
