Hearing of contempt petitions against Imran, Nawaz held at SC today

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard the contempt pleas against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan, former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Senior attorney Naseer Ahmed Kiyani who has filed the appeal against Imran Khan, accused him of uttering derogatory remarks against Iftikhar Chaudhry.

The court will also hear contempt of court requests against Nawaz Sharif and Iftikhar Chaudhry that are being filed by lawyer Riaz Hanif Rahi.

The petitions will be heard by a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar.

Supreme Court had dismissed all contempt pleas against former PM and federal ministers Daniyal Aziz and Khawaja Saad Rafique on March 14.

Earlier, a three-member bench of Supreme Court had also dismissed contempt appeals against Nawaz, Yousaf Raza Gilani, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Senate chairman Nayyar Bukhari.

Chief Justice Nisar remarked during the hearing that he did not consider the presented evidence disrespectful adding that every person has the right to comment on the verdicts staying within the boundaries.
