Tehmina Janjua becomes Pakistan’s first woman Foreign Secretary

ISLAMABAD: Tehmina Janjua became Pakistan’s first Woman Foreign Secretary on Monday.

Janjua served as a representative to the United Nations Geneva before being assigned this post, she has replaced Aizaz Chaudhry.

Previously she had served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy.

Aizaz Chaudhry was recently posted as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given approval to her appointment for this post back in February.

Contenders for the top post included the likes of Pakistan’s High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit, former Chief of Protocol and Ambassador to France Ghalib Iqbal, country’s ambassador to Denmark Masroor Junejo and Pakistan’s High Commissioner for United Kingdom Syed Ibne Hasan.
