Sukkur IBA University holds flower exhibition

SHIKARPUR: Flower Exhibition was organized at Sukkur IBA University, where a variety of colourful flowers were put on display.

The theme of the exhibition was “An Evening with Flowers”. Leader of the opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah inaugurated the event by praising the efforts of management, faculty and the staff for maintenance of greenery at the campus. He said “Sukkur IBA University is the best and I am honoured to be a part of it. Green and blossomed environment certainly has pleasant effect upon people, while it also minimizes the impact of hot weather”

He considered lose of greenery as a primary reason of rise in temperatures. He said that during 1970’s forests covered 3% of the land but deforestation has caused it to reduce to mere 0.5% which is an alarming situation. Trees and flowers are nature’s beauty and we should take a good care of them.

He asked Sindh Chief Minister for the establishment of green belt to be stretched over 11 kilometers in Sukkur.

“Pakistan’s national flag is green and we should take a part to bring green revolution in the country,” he emphasised.

“Sukkur IBA University is the only green institute in Pakistan and credit goes to Prof Nisar Ahmed Siddique and the staff,” he added.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui thanked Khursheed Shah for his visit. He gave an example of NASA that its workers are responsible for cleanliness and when asked about what their duties are, they reply “We send astronauts to moon”

VC said that clean and green environment is loved by everyone and we are all equally responsible to maintain it.

Registrar Sukkur IBA University Engr. Zahid Hussain Khan in his address said that management, faculty and staff of this university perform their respective duties with utmost honesty and dedication. He appreciated the efforts of gardeners and the support staff.

Afterwards, cash prizes and commendation certificates were distributed among the gardeners by the leader of the opposition.

Head Gardener Khuda Buksh received a mega prize of Rs. 50,000. Government officials, members of trade and industry, and civil society were present at the exhibition to express their love for flowers.
