ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, talking to the media outside the Accountability Court here on Wednesday, said that even the star witness in the Avenfield Property Wajid Zia had unequivocally admitted in court that Nawaz
Sharif had no connection with the property.

She said Zia had told the court that during the investigations he could not find any document that established Nawaz’s link with the property. Aurangzeb said, “Wajid Zia further deposed that the property was purchased by Nescol and Nielson and there was no documentary evidence to establish that Nawaz Sharif had made any payment for it, or paid any utility bill.” She added that in the case regarding the font used in the property deed, the statement of Robert Redley was also now part of public record.

The minister said that an elected prime minister was sent home on the basis of an iqama (a document showing that Nawaz Sharif was on the payroll of a company registered in one of his son’s names) and today the star witness had spoken in his [Nawaz’s] favour as well. She said that the opponents of Nawaz Sharif had not been able to establish any case of corruption or kick-backs against him.

The minister said that 17 prime ministers had to endure such treatment and the trend continued to this day unchecked. She said Nawaz Sharif had taken this issue to the court of the people to reestablish the sanctity of the vote.
