CJP has taken over govt responsibilities, says Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar has taken over the government’s job by issuing suo moto notices.

“CJP has taken control of government’s responsibilities with his suo moto actions. He should rather focus on his own responsibility and that is to serve justice to the public. 1.8 million cases are still pending and he should look into them,” Nawaz said while speaking to the media outside the accountability court after a case hearing.

Answering a question regarding the meeting between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Justice Nisar, Nawaz said that he ‘can not say anything about it’. He, however, claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was the target of CJP’s recent hospital visits.

Commenting on Panama JIT head Wajid Zia’s statements during the court proceedings, the former PM Nawaz said that all allegations against the Sharif family have been ‘washed’. “Wajid Zia has washed all accusations against us today,” Nawaz said.

During the hearing earlier today, Wajid Zia had said that the probing committee did not have or present any documents that showed Nawaz owned the Avenfield properties.

The former PM also said that he should have been in London to look after ailing wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, but he was not allowed to go. He, however, stressed that ‘one by one the facts are being revealed’.

He also termed the Avenfield case against him as a ‘fraud’ adding that ‘there are several forces behind it’.
