LAHORE: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has finally pulled up its socks to curb wall-chalking and pasting of posters on walls along main roads and streets in the provincial capital.

In this connection, Lahore Mayor Colonel (r) Mubashir Javaid Monday directed towns officials to ensure the implementation of the Punjab Prohibition of Expressing Matters on Walls Amendment Ordinance.

Earlier on March 15, the Punjab government had written a letter to launch a campaign against wall chalking and pasting of posters to departments concerned.

“The chief minister is pleased to desire that the chief secretary, in consultation with additional chief secretary (Home), Local Government and Community Development secretary and divisional commissioners, may immediately design a comprehensive campaign to curb wall chalking and inhibit pasting of posters on walls, which is illegal (under certain rules and regulations),” the letter stated. In December 2016, the district administration in a joint operation with City Traffic Police had got registered 233 cases against violators of the law.

Meanwhile, the mayor said that directives had been forward to officials concerned for taking strict action against violators. He directed officials to ensure implementation of the law. He also appealed to the general public to avoid pasting posters on walls.
