KHYBER AGENCY: A woman died while other sustained injuries during a landslide on Tuesday at Sheen Pokh and Loy Shelman, the bordering region of Tehsil Landi Kotal.
Shams-ur-Rehman, an administrative official, reported that the women were digging out mud near hill top for construction when landslide buried them mounds beneath the rocks.
Immediately, the tribesmen rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the debris. They were taken to the nearest health center where one of them was declared dead.
The deceased was identified as wife of Gulmajan and the injured as wife of Mirali Shah, who has been transferred to hospital for treatment.
Girl drowns in water canal
Meanwhile, a 14 years old girl drowned in water canal at Ghundi region of town Jamrud on Tuesday.
According to administrative officials, daughter of Zar Muhammad was rinsing clothes at bank of the canal when she slipped and fell into the water.
Instantly, the natives moved to rescue her. They fished her body out and took her to hospital where she was announced dead by the doctors.
Adabi Jirga elects office holders
In the elections held in Landi Kotal on Tuesday Professor Dr Tawab Shah Masroor was elected as President and Atif Perhar Afridi was voted for General Secretary of Khyber Adabi Jirga, according to press release by the literary forum.
Islam Gharqab was chosen as Vice-President and Kabir Khan Kabir was granted a position of Press Secretary. Zairistan Zaheer and Haris Khan Haris were opted for Finance Secretary and Joint Secretary, respectively.
In his address as newly elected President, Dr Tawab said that since the advent of Hamza Baba, the Adabi Jirga has been playing an active role for the propagation of Pashto language and literature. He vowed that the new cabinet would leave no stone unturned following the footprints of their predecessors. Earlier, Jirga conducted a remarkable meeting at its office in Landi Kotal that was attended by many poets.
