All performing art forms are important because they develop the society: Osama Tahir

Author: By Muhammad Ali

Osama Tahir is a new sensation in Pakistani showbiz who started his acting career around two years ago with a film titled ‘Chalay Thay Saath’. After that, he appeared in a HUM television drama serial ‘Darr Si Jati Hai Sila’, written by Bee Gul and directed by Kashif Nisar. While this serial is still on air, Osama Tahir’s third project as an actor, ‘Belapur Ki Dayan’ written by Enaam Hassan and directed by Saif-e-Hassan has also been released on the same channel. In this very short time of his acting career, this actor has appeared in three projects which are entirely different from each other as far as their themes are concerned. Where his film was a romantic comedy, one of his drama serials is addressing the topic of sexual harassment and the other happens to be a horror play.

Osama’s speciality lies in his dialogue delivery. Whatever he speaks, it seems as if it has been spoken with utmost care and with the consideration that no viewer misses what the actor has uttered. This is what inclined me to ask Osama if it is natural or does he do some sort of practice. Here is what he had to say: “I suppose I work on it the most that I can.”

I asked him a few other questions as well, which are as follows with their answers.

What do you like to do besides acting?

I am a huge foodie. Huge!

This answer surprised me, and made me happy as well to see that a person belonging to the media which demands a strict diet schedule does not compromise on whatever he wishes to do, and still maintains a very smart physique.

Has it been easy for you to adjust in the field or difficult?

It’s been great so far!

Which character do you relate to in real life? Are you as supportive in ‘Dar Si Jati Hai Sila’ or a bit inconsiderate as in ‘Belapur ki Dayan’?

There are elements of different characters in there, but that’s all I have to say.

Bee Gul is one of the finest dramatists of Pakistan. How was the experience of enacting a character developed by her?

It was great! With Kashif Nisar’s direction and vision of the character, many things were developed and for the better.

With which directors and writers do you wish to work in the future?

I’d like to work with the best of the best.

How important is drama, or on a broader level, arts and literature for Pakistan?

All performing art forms such as TV, film and theatre are necessary for Pakistan. This is what develops a society. It gives a reflection of who and what we are.

Where do we see you in the next ten years? What are your future plans?

My plan is to keep doing what I’m doing, and keep growing as a professional as well as a person.

Readers must have noticed that Osama Tahir’s answers are short and to the point. What I have conjectured through these answers is that the actor is focused and knows where he stands. He does not flaunt or liketo prolong discussions, stretching them across unrelated domains. This is what is visible in his work as well. Osama’s acting is serious, carefully executed and exhibits a concern not always found in youngsters. We wish him all the best for his future works.
