LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122) Tuesday launched ‘Go Green Tree Plantation Campaign’ at the Emergency Services Academy.

Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said that the campaign was part of the ‘Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme’, which is aimed at planting 100 million tree across the country, including 14 million in Punjab.

After planting a sapling, he formally launched the campaign, and said that over 3,000 trees would be planted in and around the Emergency Services Academy and Rescue 1122 headquarters. Emergency Services Academy Registrar Dr Muhammad Farhan Khalid, Dr Foaad Shahzad Mirza, Ali Hassan, Dr Ali Imam Syed and other senior officers were present on this occasion.

The director general also directed district emergency officers of Punjab to make all areas in and around rescue stations clean and green by planting trees inside and outside their operational offices. He said that trees were essential and considered a sign of life.

“Tree plantation is a need of the hour, and the unprecedented contribution of trees to fight detrimental impacts of climate change such as floods, land erosion, land stabilization etc., can never be ignored.”

He also appreciated officers, cadets and Rescue volunteers for participating in the healthy environment-friendly step. “We have to make this academy a centre of excellence through all means and the initiative of tree plantation will prove to be a milestone, where emergency services personnel from all over Pakistan will wish to visit, stay and learn,” he added.
