Paying glorified tributes to Asma Jahangir who was a legendry personality of Pakistan, during the start of the event, one-minute silence was observed by the participants in her memory. The speakers said she was larger than life, who contributed a lot to Pakistan’s jurisprudence and the legal fields.
Jahangir’s principles and struggle for human rights will live on, they concluded.
SDF executive director said that Jahangir’s name was synonymous to human rights. She fought for the marginalised segments until her death. She bravely fought for religious tolerance and promoted harmony, without fear death threats that she received.
Punjab Minister for Environment Protection Zakia Shah Nawaz, Labour Leader Rubina Jamil, Sadia Sohail, Member of Provincial Assembly Khadijah Farooqi, MPA Farah Manzoor, MPA Naseem Kanwal, Women’s Chamber Vice President Faiza Amjad and many members of metropolitan sorporations participated and said that Jahangir was the personification of courage and bravery, who continued her struggle for justice and human rights.
“She was the champion of equality, as she would have believed in equality of law and humanity,” they said. Speakers also said that Jahangir was the ambassador of peace and love, as she was a staunch believer of peace and democracy. “Jahangir is an inspiration for everyone, especially women,” they said.
